Now in its 11th year, the Little Miami Cardboard Boat Regatta at Oeder's Lake in Hamilton Township, Ohio, has become a family fun destination event for the whole area.  In the first year, when we had only 11 boats and a few hundred people showed up, we knew we were on to something.  Fast forward to 2024 and we had over 40 boats and well over 2,000 people in attendance.  This year we expect an even bigger crowd and more boats.

Year after year, we are grateful for the many sponsors without whose financial commitment the event would not be possible.  The event's success would also not be possible without the many volunteers, from those one the planning committee, to the people that show up to help that day.  

For businesses, organizations, churches, and families, BUILD A BOAT!  This can be a great team building experience unlike anything they may have done before (unless of course you did it last year).  Now imagine a day at the lake this August with you, your team and boat.  You race, the crowd shouts words of encouragement and in the end, everyone sinks.  It's going to be great!

For those that don't know what a Cardboard Boat Regatta is, let me know tell you..... You build a boat out of cardboard and then you get in it and race against other want-to-be sailors with the hope of winning your heat.  Some of the boats we see hold one person, but many have as many as two to six people in them.  And the boat designs and decorations are so creative and amazing!  Foot trucks, some kids' games and a bounce house are all on site as well.  Cost to attend the event is always free (food can be purchased from vendors and there is a registration fee if you plan to race a boat, or two).  Here are the race categories: 

            “Cardboard Boat Race” From one to eight in a boat.  Boats will be placed into heats and compete in a bracket format until we have an overall winner. There will be two age brackets: 8-14 and 15+ years of age with the oldest person in the boat to determine the age/race bracket. ALL boaters MUST me 8-years of age on or before 8/16/2025. 

            “Crash Derby” Last boat floating wins! Boats that have already raced earlier that day and are still floating can enter this category at no additional charge. Boats entering just the derby must pay the registration fee. All regatta boat building rules apply and there are additional Crash Derby rules of engagement.

             “Hero’s Race” This one heat race is open to all military, police and fire department personnel.  The winner takes home the coveted Hero’s Race Trophy and is expected to return the following year to defend their title.
